I returned to Melbourne two days ago. Whilst I was in Perth I did some freelance work and got cracking on my Blue Marlin competition brief.

I’m interning at Acorn BD for a few days and get to use their facilities as well as talking over my ideas with the CD and other designers. They have a huge library of 3D digital mock-ups one of the designer’s has put together. Blank boxes, bottles, cans, jars, containers, pouches, sleeves everything!

Each mock-up is masked so you simply colour it and add your design and it will create the appropriate shadows etc.

Bloody Brilliant!

The most perfect biscuit in the world.

The macaron. It has been consuming my life for the past six weeks. I am entering my packaging design into a competition and last night a stroke of genius hit me square between the eyes.

I had always planned to include 6 macarons in my box when i delivered it to the judges but I hadn’t thought to approach anyone about supplying me with said macarons. There are lots of blogs and articles online particularly about the Melbourne macaron scene and one man’s name is used repeatedly. Duncan. Apparently he makes the best in the city, if not the whole east coast. I am yet to sample one of his creations but I am very excited to sink me teeth into one.

So I contacted him through his blog and within the hour I had a reply! He was very enthusiastic to speak with me and said he was doing a production run next week so there would be macarons available.

Life Lesson: It is always worth asking for what you don’t expect to receive… even if it is a long shot.
